Hello, lovely readers! Today, I am so thrilled to bring back to light my plans for a Puerto Rico-based, superhero, sci-fi fantasy, dystopian book/series. I originally called it "PuertoRican Hearts", but the other day I was playing around with the outline(s) I have and I've decided the series title doesn't go well with the storyline. So, I'm rebranding. I know the covers are floating around someone on the web, but they are no longer relevant.
CW's The 100 & The Tomorrow People meets Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
What will the new series name be?
As of right now, the new "working title" is Puertorican Supers. I believe this works much better, though the word "Hearts" in the old title was prominent in terms of the characters. Because we Puertoricans have BIG hearts when it comes to our island and our hospitality. However, it said nothing for the plot in terms of challenges and adventure.
I don't have titles for the book(s) right now. I am still considering whether the current one(s) will work with the new series title and the current outline. Because it could work, but my outline is changing from where it starting, back in 2019.
The main character was inspired by Daisy on AoS, but her powers are mixed. But more on that detail another time.
The biggest reveal I've given and will share again is this: It all takes place within Puerto Rico. Locations are used fictitiously. Events are, perhaps, dramatized. But it all will take place here (my homeworld).
I am not planning to include any Spanish dialogue, apart from minor phrases, because it's all told from the MC's POV and as someone who is bilingual, I use my thought process as a guide for how the character perceives speaking with her peers. Because if I were in another country where I don't speak/understand the language, I won't have my auto-translation in my brain helping. That's how I view my writing. If the main character does not speak the language, neither will the reader. I believe this is a section of the term, "Show, don't tell."
Cover art. Of course, I will be doing my own cover art. It's just Wattpad right now. A lot of the artwork I'm sharing in this post are the nuggets of inspiration I have been looking at. Redesigning the cover art will probably be the long task of the rebrand. The new title(s) will be tricky, but I'm sure I can think of something that will work for the time being.
Not everyone enjoys the style storyline I am aiming for, but I know my audience is out there.
I guess that's all for now. Be on the look out for more posts. I'm getting back in the swing of things and hope to share more soon!
