From the Writing Cave: I Published My Short Story! | Author, E. S. Elias

I finally did it. I am officially an indie-published author. It took me longer than I planned, but I did it. April 10th, 2022: I pushed that big, yellow button on Amazon KDP.

Amazon!
My short story, Prince in Disguise has always been special to me. Especially due to the fact I wrote it in a week and it was during a very rough time for my family, and for Puerto Rico.

On September 20th, 2017, Puerto Rico was hit by Hurricane Maria. It was the roughest, most devastating storm the island had seen in a long time. At the time, my family did not own a generator and all of my electronic devices had no battery life. Cell towers were down, no one had internet service, and I had to resort to the "old ways".

I had plenty of empty notebooks and a set of brand new gel pens. I wrote this story in a matter of days. Three weeks later, my mother's sister rounded up the extended relatives and rescued us for a much-needed vacation. Having never visited them in my (at the time) 24 years of life, it was an experience to remember. I brought my notebook on the plane and after settling into my temporary, new environment, I set to typing the story.

The Wattpad numbers might not show it, but the story has received so much love from readers, even more so because of how it came into existence. Now, I believe I have covered somewhere on the inter-webs, but here are some answers to frequently asked questions; the questions are not included, just the answers.

I am only publishing the paperback at this time. I will release eBook versions on Amazon at a later date. I am only publishing to Amazon at this time, but I do plan to go wide once I've got the hang of it. I choose to do this because I'm not ready to take my books off Wattpad yet. The paperback be will available through all the international Amazon stores(& wherever Amazon ships). Publishing is a business and I will try to make the books affordable to customers, but I do want to make a profit from my hard work - I'm not trying to rip people off. Printing costs have changed in the last 6 months and I have to price my books to make them worth my while. This book is shorter, so it is under $10.

*exhales* Wow. I am euphoric. Thank you so much for joining me and for supporting my author career. There is only going up from here.
